In the Age of AI, Why Do I Still Write Blogs?
My blog hasn’t been updated for a long time, even though I write all sorts of content on it.
As I mentioned in the “About” section previously, I originally started blogging to document solutions to problems I encountered. This way, when I faced similar issues later, I’d have quick access to effective reference articles. This need was particularly strong when I began blogging in 2018. Back then, the information I found through search engines was a mixed bag—too much noise, not enough quality. I’d carefully note down the effective methods I discovered and turn them into blog posts for safekeeping. I kept up this habit right until ChatGPT burst onto the scene.
I have to admit, the widespread use of large language models has somewhat changed how I obtain reliable information. I used to be passionate about building my own knowledge base. Now, when I query large language models for information, most inaccuracies are filtered out or corrected during the model’s training and usage. The few errors that slip through are usually caught after I test things out myself. I’ve gotten used to letting AI assist me in solving problems, then saving the full, valuable context of those interactions. When similar issues pop up later, I can revisit that context and pick up the conversation with the language model where I left off.
From this angle, if the goal is just to record technical articles, the need to write blog posts seems to be fading.
Yet, I often find myself struck by thoughts, itching to write something down, to capture a moment. After all, I’m the one navigating this world day by day, experiencing its richness firsthand. Maybe my blog can be a mirror—one that reflects my life and my thoughts.
Take this year, for instance. Since the Spring Festival, I’ve been wrestling with all sorts of troubles. My body and mind have been put through the wringer, and at times, my head has been a stage for some truly wild scenes. I’ll probably end up documenting many of these experiences—the big moments, the small ones, and how I feel about them. It might be through blog posts, or maybe some other medium. Writing helps me untangle my thoughts, and for you, reading this, it might feel like you’re brushing against my words and, little by little, touching my soul.
Looking ahead, my blog will likely shift toward capturing more of my life: what I see, what I think, the experiments I try, and the results I get. It probably won’t focus on technical articles anymore. Instead, it’ll reflect me—someone out there in a corner of the world, living each new day as it comes.
